Hennesy, a Reservation for Black Excellence

Published

on

Hennessy

It was only right that you enter a space such as this one with Drake playing in the background. The absolute perfect entrance. Reserve Lounge? Ok. That’s all I could say. The name spoke for itself. The feeling: laid back, upscale. Could it be because of the crowd, their fashion or the energy emitted from the venue? Who knows. What we do know is that here, in this room, African American excellence, Black excellence will take the stage.

On Thursday, February 20th, Hennessy and DjAYEboogie honored three locals living their element of African American excellence:

Joan Hardaway of North City Congress has worked for 25 yrs with the elderly, granting additional value to their lives.

Kevin Harden, Jr of Ross Feller Casey, LLP made history settling the largest malpractice case in Berks county history for 9.6 million dollars. Also noted, he recently assisted Terrance Lewis with being fully exonerated after serving 21 years in prison.

Patrick Jeune of JP Holdings, LLC has sold 30 million dollars worth of real estate before the age of 30. Purchasing his first home while still attending Temple University as an Undergrad.

Thoughts of attendees:
“I think it’s great. The venue is a great space and I’m curious to see how the night unfolds” – Jus Rome

The event is great thus far. Great to see black ppl, network, and come together. We need to see more of these events. I would love it.” – Shai Luv

As an ambassador of Hennessy, DjAYEboogie aims to highlight black excellence within our community and continue serving as a culture connector. This evening, he honors those individuals within arms reach who embody the #WeArePower message.

As the night carried on, Main Course PHL was able to get a quick word with DjAYEboogie:

How did it happen?

Hennessy has committed to honoring and highlighting black excellence within our communities. We want to continue supporting our influencers and elevated Philadelphia’s culture as a whole. We want to continue the conversation, illustrating the ambitious, the creative, the proud. Through the #WeArePower Black History Month mixer we are able to shine the light on the excellence within our city.

Your feelings on the event?

“It almost feel like Saturday night. The energy is incredible. The response from our market is amazing. I like to see everyone come out for a common cause and continue to support each other.”

According to researchers, a middle aged mixed woman is the third person to be cured of H.I.V. The patient underwent a new blood transfusion procedure using umbilical cord blood or more specifically, stem cells. Scientists were able to treat her acute myeloid leukemia – a cancer that starts in blood-forming cells in the bone marrow along with building the patient an HIV-resistant immune system. This occurred because the cord blood used contained an HIV-resistant mutation. With this, the patient was able to enter remission for 14 months.

“She was part of a study that began in 2015 designed to monitor outcomes of 25 people with HIV in the U.S. who underwent a transplant, according to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.” – abcnews

Instead of the normal bone marrow transplant, doctors used the procedure known as a haplo-cord transplant, giving her cord blood from a partially matched donor. A relative provided her with additional blood to boost her immune system. Adult stem cells were then used to

The first two people to be cured of H.I.V. are adult males, one male and the other latino, who received bone marrow transplants using adult stem cells.

According to www.hiv.gov

  • Approximately 1.2 million people in the U.S. have HIV. About 13 percent of them don’t know it and need testing.
  • HIV continues to have a disproportionate impact on certain populations, particularly racial and ethnic minorities and gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men.
  • In 2019, an estimated 34,800 new HIV infections occurred in the United States

HIV in Philadelphia

Philadelphia was 1 of 48 counties in the United States selected to receive federal funding in 2019 to combat the HIV epidemic under the Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America (EHE) initiative. The plan’s overall goal is a 75% reduction in new HIV diagnoses by 2025 and a 90% reduction in new HIV diagnoses by 2030. Through this initiative, PDPH aims to reach these goals by focusing efforts on 5 Key Pillars: Diagnosis, Treatment, Prevention, Response, and an added pillar for an overarching approach based in health equity and radical customer service.
