Philadelphia Red Carpet Party: 86th Academy Award Celebration

Published

by Gina Lee

On Sunday, March 2, in light of the 86th Academy Awards, Philadelphia Style Magazine hosted its third annual Philadelphia Red Carpet Party in the Ritz-Carlton’s 10 Arts Lounge. Even 2,400 miles away, the high profile award show managed to bring out the best in Philadelphia. The red carpet entrance into the 10 Arts Lounge would have turned anyone into an Oscars fan for the night, even if you weren’t necessarily there to watch the big names in Hollywood win big awards for whatever big movies were up for nominations this year. This crowd came to show off their big name designer suits, shoes, and dresses; enjoy complimentary cocktails and light eats; and mingle with the ambiguous mixture of socialites from around the city. What especially inspired guests to dress red-carpet-ready was Philadelphia Style’s best-dressed contest, judged by Editor in Chief Kristin Detterline and PhillyStreetStyle.com’s Jimmy Contreras.

Mixed throughout the crowd were Philadelphia fashion designers, makeup artists, city bloggers, writers, independent filmmakers, aspiring actors, and small business owners. It was a festive smorgasbord of people within the city moving with a purpose. The complimentary “Mi Oscar” drink, a concoction infused with George Clooney’s newest tequila venture, Casamigos, loosened lips and made it easy for everyone to work the room, exchange contact information, and indulge in a few photo ops to highlight just how spectacular this event really was.

While some were able to fully focus their attention on the Hollywood happenings shown on one of the many big screens hung high above the room, others stopped socializing only long enough to see Jennifer Lawrence take a clumsy spill…again, to witness Jared Leto speak to us through his gorgeous eyeballs, and to catch a glimpse of Brad Pitt shoveling pizza into his mouth like an 18-year-old college student. Seriously, when is Brad Pitt not eating on camera?

But the bigger question is why would anyone have missed this event? It was free! The Ritz-Carlton and Philadelphia Style Magazine made it too easy to party in style on one of the most stylish nights in television. Next year, get your name on the list.
